What is the difference between yoga and Zen?
Zen is a Buddhist practice. The word ‘ zen ‘ is a translation of ‘dhyana’. This means that zen (or meditation) is just one way of practicing ‘ yoga ‘ in its full sense. Zen doesn’t have to mean that you sit in a cross-legged position on the floor for 3 hours without thinking.
Is dhyana a jhana?
The Buddha taught four basic levels of jhana, but in time path of eight levels emerged. The Mahayana school of Zen actually is named for dhyana; dhyana became Chan in Chinese, and Chan became Zen in Japanese.
